Materials
3 skeins variegated knitting worsted (pastel colors shown)
White knitting worsted for trim
Size G hook
3" or 3 ½" vinyl baby doll mask
2, ¾” white pom-poms
9" sq. pc. cardboard
9"x18" pc. contrasting color felt

Bottom of Bag

Rnd 1: ch 3, sl st to join, 8 sc in ring, sl st in first sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc, sl st in 1st sc. Always end each rnd with a sl st in 1st sc

Rnd 3: 2 sc in each sc.

Rnd 4: Sc in each sc.

Rnd 5: Sc in 1st sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat around.

Rnd 6: Sc in each sc.

Rnd 7: Inc in every 6th st.

Rnd 8: Sc in each sc.

Rnd 9: Inc in every 7th st.

Rnd 10: Inc in every 4th st.

Rnd 11: Sc in each sc.

Rnd 12: Inc in every 10th st.

Rnd 13: Inc in every 11th st.

Rnd 14: Sc in each sc.

Rnd 15: Inc. in every 12th st.

Rnd 16: Sc in each sc.

Rnd 17: Inc in every 13th st.

Rnd 18: Sc in each sc. Fasten off.

Side of Bag

With right side down, attach yarn in back loop of a sc st. Ch 3, dc in back of each loop around, sl st in ch 3, ch 3 and dc in each dc. Continue each row until piece measures about 14" long; then ch 4, 1 dc in first dc, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in next 2 dc; repeat from * all around. This is where you will lace the drawstrings.

Work 2 more rows with a dc in every dc, join.

Last row: Ch 1, sc in next 3 dc, *skip 2 dc, 5 dc in next dc, skip 2 dc, sc in next 4 dc; repeat from * around. Fasten off.

Drawstrings

Make 2 chains of 130 stitches for the drawstrings. Starting at the left of the bag, weave one drawstring through the row you made for this. Starting at the right side of the bag, weave the 2nd drawstring through the same row. Tie the 2 left strings together. Tie the 2 right strings together. Make pom-pom and attach to each string.

Shaping Bottom

Cut a round piece of cardboard to fit in bottom of bag. Cover both sides with contrasting-color felt. Tuck into the bottom of the bag.

Baby Bonnet

Starting at back of bonnet with main color (variegated), ch 6 and sl st to join, forming ring, ch 3 and turn.

Rnd 1: (Ch 3 acts as 1st dc.) Dc 13 in ring, sl st to join (14 dc made); ch 3 and turn.

Rnd 2: 1 dc in back loop in same loop as join; 2 dc in back loop of top of each dc in rnd 1 (28 dc), ch 3 and turn.

Rnd 3: Working in back loop of top of each dc, dc in next dc, *2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 2 dc; repeat from * around, ending rnd with sl st to join, ch 3 (38 dc).

Rnd 4: Repeat * in rnd 3 (52 dc). End each row with sl st and ch 3 and turn.

Rnd 5: Repeat rnd 4 (69 dc).

Rnd 6: Repeat rnd 5, ending with 92 dc. Fasten off.

Trim

With white, attach in top of a dc, ch 4 and sl st in base of ch to form a picot st, 4 sc in each of next 4 dc, picot st, repeat around and sl st to join. Fasten off.

Ruffle Around Face

Attach yarn in top of ch 3 of 4th rnd of the back of the bonnet. Dc in front loop of each dc in 4th row; join with sl st, ch 3 and turn. Dc in each dc of previous row, sl st to join. Fasten off.

Ruffle Trim

With white, attach and ch 3, (1 dc, 1 trc, 2 dc) in next st, *skip 1 st, sc in next st, skip 1 st, (2 dc, 1 trc, 2 dc — shell made) in next st; repeat from * around. Fasten off.

Make a ch of 100. Weave through shell sts and sc sts. Place face in opening, draw ch tight and tie in bow. Attach white pom-poms to end of ch. Center bonnet on bag and sew to bag.
