Instructions are for children's size. Changes for women's size are in parentheses.

You Need: Columbia-Minerva Yarn, 1 each of MC, A, B, C & D

For Women:
MC – Dark Brown
A – Rust
B – Red
C – Orange
D – Peach

For Children:
MC – Navy
A – Royal
B – Rust
C – Lt. Blue
D – White

"Boye" knitting needles No. 7 or size to give gauge.

Gauge: 11 sts = 3"; 6 rows (3 ridges) = 1"

Moccasins are worked in garter st (K every row).

Sole (Make 4): With MC, cast on 3(5) sts (toe). K 2 rows. * Inc 1 st each side of next row. K 1 row. Rep from * once – 7(9) sts. Work even to 3(3½)" from beg. Dec 1 st each side of next row. Work on 5(7) sts to 7(8)" from beg. Dec 1 st each side of next 1(2) rows. K 2 tog at beg of next row, K 1, pull dec st over K st. Fasten off. With MC, working thru double thickness, work sl st in end st of each ridge to join.

Top: With B, cast on 60(70) sts (leaving a 3" end when changing colors). K 2 rows each A, B, C and 1 row D.

Work Short Rows as follows:

Row 1: K 12, place marker on needle, K to within last 12 sts, place marker on needle, do not K rem 12 sts. Turn.

Row 2: K to marker, do not K rem 12 sts. Turn.

Note: Work on sts between markers only for rows 3 through 8.

Rows 3 & 4: Sl 1, K to within 5 sts of marker, turn.

Rows 5 & 6: Sl 1, K to within 10 sts of marker, turn.

Rows 7 & 8: Sl 1, K to within 15 sts of marker, turn.

Row 9: Sl 1, K to end, dropping marker. Cut yarn. Join C, leaving a 3" end. Bind off, dropping marker.

Instep: With D, cast on 3(4) sts.

Row 1: Knit.

Row 2: K, inc 1 st each side – 5(6) sts.

Row 3: Knit. Cut D.

Rows 4 & 5: With B, rep Rows 1 and 2 – 7(8) sts.

Rows 6-13: With A, knit. Cut A.

Rows 14 & 15: With B, knit.

Rows 16-22: With D, knit.

Rows 23 & 24: Rep Rows 14 & 1 5.

Rows 25-27: With A, knit.

Row 28: K, dec 1 st each side - 5(6) sts. Bind off.

Finishing: Embroider instep as shown. With C, work sc around entire instep. From right side with MC, sl st top and sole tog. Leaving top of instep free, with C sl st instep to top.
