EASY

Poinsettia measures 7" across. Christmas Rose measures 4" across; leaf measures 3 ½" long.

RED HEART® "Holiday": 1 ball each 9040 Red/Silver A, 6040 Green/Silver B, and 0140 White/Silver C.

Crochet Hook: 5.5mm [US I-9].
Yarn needle.

GAUGE: Gauge is not important for these projects.

NOTE: One ball of each color will make at least 5 Poinsettias and 5 Christmas Roses with leaves.

POINSETTIA

With A, ch 4; join with a slip st in first ch to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 1, 8 sc in ring; join with a slip st in front loop of first sc.

Round 2: Ch 8, slip st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next 4 ch, slip st in same front loop as joining, * (slip st, ch 8, slip st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next 4 ch, slip st) all in front loop of next sc; repeat from * around - 8 petals.

Round 3: Slip st in back loop of first sc on Round 1, ch 11, slip st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch, tr in next 3 ch, dc in next 2 ch, slip st in same back loop, * (slip st, ch 11, slip st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch, tr in next 3 ch, dc in next 2 ch, slip st) all in back loop of next sc on Round 1; repeat from * around. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Center "Berries"

With B, ch 4; join with a slip st in first ch to form a ring; [ch 3, 3 dc in ring, drop loop from hook and insert hook in top of beginning ch-3 from front to back, pick up dropped loop and draw through loop on hook, slip st in ring] 3 times. Fasten off, leaving 6" tail for sewing. Turn piece over. With yarn needle, weave tail through tops of sts, pull tight and knot.

To flatten flower, place right side down on towel, cover with wet cloth and lightly press with fingers until petals are flat. Do NOT iron. Allow to dry.

Sew "Berries" to center of flower.

CHRISTMAS ROSE

With C, ch 4; join with a slip st in first ch to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 2, 7 hdc in ring; join with a slip st to top of ch-2 - 8 sts.

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, ch 2, [sc in next hdc, ch 2] 7 times; join with a slip st in first sc.

Round 3: * (Slip st, ch 1, 5 dc, ch 1, slip st) all in next ch-2 space; repeat from * around.

Round 4: Working behind last round and in the same sts as Round 2 is worked, ch 1, sc in beginning ch-2 of Round 1, ch 2, [sc in next hdc, ch 2] 7 times; join with a slip st in first sc.

Round 5: * (Slip st, ch 1, 7 dc, ch 1, slip st) all in next ch-2 space; repeat from * around. Fasten off.

With yarn needle, weave a short piece of white yarn through the ch-2 spaces of Round 2. Pull tight and knot. Pull yarn ends underneath flower and weave in. This will push the center of the flower up a little so it stands out.

Leaves (Make 3)

With B, ch 10; sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next ch, hdc in next 5 ch, dc in next ch, 7 dc in last ch, working on opposite side of starting ch, dc in next ch, hdc in next 5 ch, slip st in last 2 ch. Fasten off.

Overlap bottoms of all 3 leaves, stitch together. Sew to back of rose. Weave in ends.
