Scarf measures approximately 5" wide x 68" long. Hat fits most women.

RED HEART® Ltd. ''Mclntosh™'': Scarf 2 Balls No. 1334 Heather; Hat: 1 Ball No. 1334 Heather.

Knitting Needles: Scarf: 6mm [US 10]; Hat: 5mm [US 8].

Yarn needle.

GAUGES: Scarf: 20 sts = 5"; 22 rows = 4" in pattern with 6mm needles; Hat: 17 sts = 4"; 28 rows = 4" in pattern with 5mm needles. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauges.

SCARF

With larger needles, cast on 20 sts.

Row 1 (Wrong Side): * K2tog, [yo] twice, K2tog; repeat from * across.

Row 2: * K1, work (K1, P1) into double yo of previous row, K1; repeat from * across.

Row 3: K2, * K2tog, [yo] twice, K2tog; repeat from * to last 2 sts; K2.

Row 4: K3, * work (K1, P1) into double yo of previous row, K2; repeat from * to last st; K1.

Repeat Rows 1-4 for pattern until approximately 68" from beginning, end Row 2 or 4. Bind off. Weave in ends.

HAT

Begin at the brim, with smaller needles, cast on 80 sts.

Row 1 (Right Side): Knit.

Rows 2-8: Knit.

Row 9: K4, * [bring yarn from the back to the front under the 8 rows worked and to the back again between the needles] twice wrapping fairly tightly, K9; repeat from * to last 4 sts, K4.

Now work in pattern as follows:

Row 1 (Wrong Side): * K2tog, [yo] twice, K2tog; repeat from * across.

Row 2: * K1, work (K1, P1) into double yarn over of previous row, K1; repeat from * across.

Row 3: K2, * K2tog, [yo] twice, K2tog; repeat from * to last 2 sts; K2.

Row 4: K3, * work (K1, P1) into double yo of previous row, K2; repeat from * to last st; K 1.

Rows 5-12: Repeat Rows 1-4 for pattern twice more.

Next Row: Knit.

Next Row: K4, K2tog, [K8, K2tog] 7 times, K4 - 72 sts.

Next Row: Knit.

Next Row: K4, K2tog, [K7, K2tog] 7 times, K3 - 64 sts.

Next Row: Knit.

Next Row: K3, K2tog, [K6, K2tog] 7 times, K3 - 56 sts.

Repeat Rows 1-12 once more.

Shape Crown-Row 1 And All Odd Numbered Rows: Knit.

Row 2: K3, K2tog, [K5, K2tog] 7 times, K2 - 48 sts.

Row 4: K2, K2tog, [K4, K2tog] 7 times, K2 - 40 sts.

Row 6: K2, K2tog, [K3, K2tog] 7 times, K1 - 32 sts.

Row 8: K1, K2tog, [K2, K2tog] 7 times, K1 - 24 sts.

Row 10: [K2tog] 12 times - 12 sts.

Row 12: [K2tog] 6 times - 6 sts.

Break off yarn leaving a long tail. Weave yarn through remaining stitches and pull tightly to secure. Sew back seam. Weave in all loose ends.
