Approximate Size 50 x 62 inches

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

Columbia-Minerva
Nantuk Sports Yarn (2 oz pull skein)
Color A (Black) 18 skeins
Color B (Pink) 5 skeins
Color C (Kelly) 2 skeins
Color D (Turquoise) 1 skein
Color E (Blue) 1 skein
Color F (Orange) 1 skein
Color G (Lavender) 1 skein
Color H (Gold) 1 skein

Needles: One "Boye" afghan hook Size J and one crochet hook Size G

Gauge: 4 sts to 1 inch; 7 rows to 2 inches

SQUARE: With Size J hook and A—ch 24.

Row 1: Draw up a loop in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Take off loops as follows: Yo and draw through 1 loop, * yo and draw through 2 loops, repeat from * across.

Row 2: Counting loop on hook as first st, * insert hook in next upright st and draw up a loop, repeat from * across, drawing up last loop through last st. Take off loops. Repeat Row 2 for pat until there are 20 rows from start. Sl st across. Do not fasten off. With G hook, crochet 1 row of sc around square with 3 sc in each corner. Join with sl st to first st. Fasten off. Make 80. Approximate size is 6 x 6 inches.

EMBROIDERY: Cut stencil from Chart. With contrasting color marking pen or chalk, mark 40 squares lightly in one direction then turn stencil over and mark 40 squares facing in opposite direction. All embroidery is done in chain stitch going in one direction. Stems and leaves are done first then starting outside marked edge, embroider flowers working toward center with colors indicated on Chart.

Join squares alternating direction of design, making 10 strips of 8 squares across. Sew first and 2nd rows of squares tog and embroider border design between, following Chart or cut stencil and mark. Continue joining 3rd and 4th rows the same. Join all strips and complete embroidery with the exception of first and last squares which are done after finishing.

Finishing: Crochet 4 rows of sc around with 3 sc in each corner. Complete embroidery of corner squares.

TASSELS: Wind Color B around a 3½-inch cardboard. Cut at one end. Fold 20 strands in half and wind strand tightly around 1 inch below top and tie securely. Make 32. Sew tassels in place as shown.
