Make squares of Bucilla "Wool and Shetland Wool," 2 oz balls;
or Bear Brand, Fleisher's or Botany Machine Washable Winsom, 2 oz skeins;
or equivalent

Use Crochet Hook, Size G hook or size required to obtain gauge

GAUGE: Each Square approximately 8 ins. square

With A, ch 42 for lower edge.

Row 1–right side–Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, * ch 1, skip next ch, 1 sc in next ch; repeat from * across row; 41 sts.

Row 2–Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, * ch 1, skip next ch 1, 1 sc in next sc; repeat from * across row.

Repeat row 2, 8 times more.

Row 11–Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, work ch 1 and 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, ch 3, skip next 3 sts (ch 1, 1 sc, ch 1), work 1 sc in next sc, ch 3, skip next 3 sts, 1 sc in next sc, ch 1, skip next ch, 1 sc in next sc, mark sc just made, ch 1, skip next ch, 1 sc in next sc, ch 3, skip next 3 sts, 1 sc in next sc, ch 3, skip next 3 sts, 1 sc in next sc, work ch 1 and 1 sc in each of last 5 sc.

Row 12–Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, work ch 1 and 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, * ch 3, skip next ch 3, 1 sc in next sc *; repeat between *'s once more, ch 3, skip next 3 sts, 1 sc in next sc; repeat between *'s twice, ch 1 and 1 sc in each of last 5 sc.

Note–Work dc around post of st as follows:–

Yo, insert hook from front to back in space before designated st, then from back to front on other side of same st, yo and draw up a loop, yo and through 2 loops, yo and through 2 loops.

Row 13–Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, work ch 1 and 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, ch 3 and 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, ch 1, work a dc around marked sc in 2nd row below, ch 1, skip next ch 3 on row 12, 1 sc in next sc (8th sc from end of row), ch 3 and 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, ch 1 and 1 sc in each of last 5 sc.

Row 14–Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, ch 1 and 1 sc in, each of next 5 sc, ch 3 and 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, ch 1 and 1 sc in each of last 5 sc.

Row 15–Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, ch 1 and 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, ch 3 and 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, ch 1, work 3 dc around post of dc below, ch 1, skip next ch 3 on row 14, 1 sc in 8th sc from end of row, ch 3 and 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, ch 1 and 1 sc in each of last 5 sc.

Row 29–Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, ch 1 and 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, ch 3, 1 sc in next sc, ch 3, skip first 3 ch of ch 11, work 1 sc in next ch, work a dec. dc around post of first dec. dc and next dc, a dec. dc around posts of next 2 dc, a dec. dc around post of next dc and next dec. dc, skip next 3 ch of ch 11, work 1 sc in next ch, ch 3, 1 sc in 7th sc from end of row, ch 3, 1 sc in next sc, ch 1 and 1 sc in each of last 5 sc.

Row 30–Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, ch 1 and 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, ch 3 and 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, ch 1 and 1 sc in each of last 5 sc.

Row 31–Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, ch 1 and 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, ch 3 and 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, ch 1, yo, draw up a loop around post of first dec. dc, yo and through 2 loops, * yo, draw up a loop around post of next dec. dc, yo and through 2 loops; repeat from * once, yo and through all 4 loops on hook, ch 1, 1 sc in 8th sc from end of row, ch 3 and 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, ch 1 and 1 sc in each of last 5 sc.

Row 32–Repeat row 14.

Row 33–Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, ch 1 and 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, * ch 1, skip next ch, 1 sc in next ch, ch 1, skip next ch, 1 sc in next sc; repeat from * 4 times, ch 1 and 1 sc in each of last 5 sc.

Row 34–Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, * ch 1, skip next ch, 1 sc in next sc; repeat from * across row.

Repeat row 34 until 42 rows–about 8 ins. from beg. Fasten off.

With A, ch 20 for stem, join to top of leaf with a sl st. Fasten off.

Sew to square as illustrated.
