El Mirage Afghan Pattern

About 40 by 60 inches plus fringe

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Nantuk Sweater & Afghan Yarn (2 oz pull skein):
Color A: 7 skeins (Dark)
Color B: 1 skein (Medium Dark)
Color C: 2 skeins (Medium)
Color D: 1 skein (Light)

Needles: One "Boye" crochet fork—3-inch and one crochet hook Size F

Following instructions accompanying fork, with Color A—make 225 loops, fasten off.

Row 1: Join yarn at center of one end of strip, ch 8, inserting hook through 3 loops work 1 sc, * ch 3, 1 sc through next 3 loops, repeat from * to end, ch 8, 1 sc in center of end, ch 8, 1 sc through next 3 loops, ** ch 3, 1 sc through next 3 loops, repeat from ** to end, ch 8, join with sl st to first sc, fasten off.

Row 2: Join yarn with an sc at center, 1 sc in each of next 7 ch, skip 1 ch, * ch 3, 1 sc in center of next ch-3, repeat from * to end, ch 3, 1 sc in 2nd st of ch-8, 1 sc in next 6 ch, 1 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 7 ch, skip 1 ch, ** ch 3, 1 sc in center of next ch-3, repeat from ** to end, ch 3, skip next ch, 1 sc in each of next 7 ch. Fasten off.

Note: Row 2 of every strip is made with Color A.

Make 2 more strips with A, 2 strips of B, 4 strips of C, 2 strips of D.

Assembling: With Color A—work 1 sc in center ch of first ch-3 at right edge of an A strip, ch 4, 1 sc in center of first ch-3 on left edge of B strip, * ch 4, 1 sc in center of next ch-3 on A strip, ch 4, 1 sc in center of next ch-3 on B strip, repeat from * to end. Join all 11 strips in following color sequence: B to C, C to D, D to C, C to A, A to C, C to D, D to C, C to B and B to A.

Block very lightly.

Fringe: Cut four 16-inch strands of A, fold in half and draw through one corner then draw ends through loop and tighten. Repeat fringe in center of each strip and at each side of each strip. Trim.
