Coconino Pullover with Dickey Pattern

Directions are for Size 10. Changes for Sizes 12, 14, 16, 18 & 20 are in parentheses.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Nantuk Sweater & Afghan Yarn (2 oz pull skein):
Color A: 5 (6-6-7-7-7) skeins
Color B: 1 skein

Needles: One pair each "Boye" Sizes 6 & 9 and one crochet hook Size H

Gauge: Stockinette St on Size 9—9 sts to 2 inches; 6 rows to 1 inch

PULLOVER

Back: With Size 6 needles and Color A—cast on 78 (82-86-90-94-100) sts. K 1 and P 1 in ribbing for 7 rows. Change to Size 9 needles and work in St St to 18 inches from start. Width across back is 17¼ (18-19-20-21-22) inches.

Armholes: Bind off 5 (5-5-5-6-7) at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 each side every other row 3 (4-5-6-6-7) times. Work on the 62 (64-66-68-70-72) sts to 7 (7-7½-7½-8-8) inches straight above underarm, end with a K row. Width across shoulders is 13¾ (14¼-14¾-15¼-15¾-16) inches.

Shoulders: Bind off 4 (5-5-6-6-7) at beg of next 2 rows then 7 sts at beg of next 4 rows. K instead of P the 26 (26-28-28-30-30) sts for turn. Starting with a K row, inc 1 st each side every row 3 times. P 1 more row. Bind off.

Front: Work same as back to 12 inches from start, end with a P row.

Center Eyelets: K 37 (39-41-43-45-48), yo, K 2 tog, sl 1, K 1, psso, yo, K to end. P 1 row and K 1 row.

Opening: P 39 (41-43-45-47-50) and sl them to a holder, P to end. K across then cast on 2 sts for turning st and facing. Work on the 41 (43-45-47-49- 52) sts:

Row 1: P.

Row 2: K to last 2 sts, with yarn at back, sl 1 as if to P for turning st, K 1 for facing.

Row 3: P.

Dec Row: K to last 4 sts, sl 1, K 1, psso for neck dec, sl 1, K 1. Repeat neck dec every 8th row 4 times then every 4th row 8 (8-9-9-10-10) times more And At The Same Time when front measures 2 inches above center eyelets, work eyelet on next right side row: K to last 4 sts, yo, K 2 tog, sl 1, K 1. Repeat eyelet every 12th row 3 times more and when front matches back to underarm, bind off 5 (5-5-5-6-7) sts at side edge then dec 1 at same edge every other row 3 (4-5-6-6-7) times. When armhole matches back armhole, bind off 4 (5-5-6-6-7) at armhole edge once, then 7 sts at same edge once, then 9 sts at same edge once. For other side, with Size 9 needles cast on 2 sts for facing and turning st, then with same needle starting at center K the 39 (41-43-45-47-50) sts on holder. Work on the 41 (43-45-47-49- 52) sts:

Row 1: P.

Row 2: K 1 for facing, sl 1 for turning st, K to end.

Row 3: P.

Dec Row: K 1, sl 1, K 2 tog for neck dec, K to end.

Finish to correspond to other side, working eyelets as follows: On right side of work, K 1, sl turning st, sl 1, K 1, psso, yo, K to end.

Sleeves: With Size 6 needles and Color A—cast on 34 (36-36-38-40-42). K 1 and P 1 in ribbing for 3 inches, inc'ing 2 (2-4-4-6-8) sts on last row. Change to Size 9 needles and work in St St. Inc 1 st each side on 5th row then every 8th row 7 times more. Work on the 52 (54-56-58-62-66) sts to 16½ inches or desired length from start.

Sleeve Cap: Bind off 5 (5-5-5-6-7) at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every other row until 22 sts rem. Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 4 rows. Bind off 14.
Sew shoulder seams. Sew sleeves in place then sew underarm and sleeve seams. Turn in hems and facings and sew to wrong side.

Edging: With Color B, on right side of work crochet 1 sc in first sl st of turn on left front, * 1 sc in next sl st to the right, repeat from * working backward from left to right on front and across sts on back of neck then in each sl st on right front. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

Cords: With 2 strands of Color B, crochet two 40-inch chains. Lace through eyelets. Knot each end of cord.

DICKEY

Front: With Size 9 needles and Color B—cast on 19 sts.

Row 1Wrong side: P 1, * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across.

Row 2: K 1, * P 1, K 1, repeat from * across.

Row 3: Repeat Row 1.

Work in pat:

Row 1Right side: K 1, P 1 then K to last 2 sts, P 1, K 1.

Row 2: P 1, K 1, then P to last 2 sts, K 1, P 1. Repeat Rows 1 & 2 once more.

Inc Row: K 1, P 1, inc 1 in next st, K to last 3 sts, inc 1, P 1, K 1. Repeat inc row every 4th row 15 times more. Work on the 51 sts to 14 inches from start measured through center of work, end on right side.

Neck: Work 15 sts and sl them to a holder, work 21 sts and sl them to 2nd holder for neck, work to end. Dec 1 at neck every other row twice. Work on the 13 sts for 7 rows. Bind off. Starting at opposite neck edge, work other side.

Back: With Size 9 needles cast on 51 sts. Work ribbing same as on front for 5 rows. Work Rows 1 & 2 of pat to 3 inches from start, end on wrong side.

Shoulders: Bind off 13 sts at beg of next 2 rows, leave rem'ing 25 sts on needle.

Neckband: Sew left shoulder seam. With Size 6 needles, K the 25 sts of back, pick up and K 10 along side, K the 21 from holder, pick up and K 10 on other side. K 1 and P 1 in ribbing on the 66 sts for about 4 inches. Bind off loosely in ribbing.

Sew open shoulder, joining neckband. Fold in half and sew to inside.
