Directions are for Size 10. Changes for Sizes 12, 14 & 16 are in parentheses.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Nantuk Sweater & Afghan Yarn (2 oz pull skein): 5 (5-6-6) skeins

Needles: One pair each "Boye" Sizes 6 & 9 and one cable needle

Gauge: Stockinette St on Size 9— 9 sts to 2 inches; 6 rows to 1 inch

Back: With Size 9 needles cast on 77 (83-89-95) sts. K 9 rows in garter st for border. Work in St St to 11 inches from start, end on wrong side.
Change to Size 6 needles. Start rib pat:

Row 1: K 2, * P 1, K 2, repeat from * across.

Row 2: P 2, * K 1, P 2, repeat from * across. Repeat Rows 1 & 2 working to 16 inches from start, end on wrong side. Work 1 more row, dec'ing 1 st each side on Sizes 12, 14 & 16 only. Change to Size 9 needles. Work on the 77 (81-87-93) sts as follows;

Row 1—Wrong side: K 1 (3-6-9), P 1, K 1, P 1, * K 6, P 1, K 1, P 1, repeat from * to last 1 (3-6-9) sts, K to end.

Row 2: P 1 (3-6-9), sl next 2 sts to cable needle and hold in back, K next st, sl the P st from cable needle to left-hand needle and P it then K the st from cable needle for a cable twist, * P 6, twist cable, repeat from * to last 1 (3-6-9), P to end.

Row 3: Repeat Row 1.

Row 4: P 1 (3-6-9), K 1, P 1, K 1, * P 6, K 1, P 1, K 1, repeat from * to last 1 (3-6-9), P to end.

Repeat these 4 rows for pat, working to 19 inches above start or desired length to underarm. Width across back is 17¼ (18-19¼-20½) inches.

Armholes: Bind off 4 (5-6-7) at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 each side every other row 4 (4-5-5) times. Work on the 61 (63-65-69) sts to 7 (7½-7½-8) inches straight above underarm. Width across shoulders is 13½ (14-14½-15¼) inches.

Shoulders: Bind off 6 (7-7-8) sts at beg of next 2 rows then 6 sts at beg of next 4 rows. Bind off rem'ing 25 (25-27-29) sts for neck.

Left Front: With Size 9 needles cast on 49 (52-55-58) sts. K 9 rows for garter st border. Next row K to last 7 sts, sl the 7 sts to holder for front border. Continue in St St on the 42 (45-48-51) sts to match back to ribbing, end on wrong side. Change to Size 6 needles.

Row 1: * K 2, P 1, repeat from * across.

Row 2: * K 1, P 2, repeat from * across. Repeat last 2 rows to match ribbing on back, end on wrong side. Work 1 more row in ribbing dec'ing 1 st at beg of row on Sizes 12,14 & 16 only. Change to Size 9 needles. Work on the 42 (44-47-50) sts:

Row 1: K 2, P 1, K 1, P 1, * K 6, P 1, K 1, P 1, repeat from * to last 1 (3-6-9) sts, K to end.

Row 2: P 1 (3-6-9), twist cable, * P 6, twist cable, repeat from * to last 2 sts, P 2.

Row 3: Repeat Row 1.

Row 4: P 1 (3-6-9), K 1, P 1, K 1, * P 6, K 1, P 1, K 1, repeat from * to last 2 sts, P 2. Repeat these 4 rows for pat, working to match back to underarm, end on wrong side.

Armhole & Neck: Bind off 4 (5-6-7) at beg of next row. Dec 1 at same edge every other row 4 (4-5-5) times, end at front edge: 34 (35-36-38) sts rem.

Dec 1 st at front edge on next row then every other row until 18 (19-19-20) sts rem. Work to match back armhole, end at armhole edge.

Shoulder: Bind off 6 (7-7-8) at armhole once then 6 sts at same edge twice.

Right Front: Work same as left front for 9 rows. Next row K 7 and sl them to a holder for front border, K to end. Continue in St St on the 42 (45-48-51) sts to match left front to ribbing, end on wrong side. Change to Size 6 needles.

Row 1: * P 1, K 2, repeat from * across.

Row 2: * P 2, K 1, repeat from * across.

Repeat last 2 rows to match left front ribbing, end on wrong side. Work 1 more row in ribbing, dec'ing 1st at end of row on Sizes 12, 14 & 16 only.

Change to Size 9 needles. Work on the 42 (44-47-50) sts:

Row 1—Wrong side: K 1 (3-6-9), P 1, K 1, P 1, * K 6, P 1, K 1, P 1, repeat from * across, end K 2. Finish to correspond to left front.

Sew shoulder and side seams.

Borders: For left front with Size 6 needles, K every row on the 7 sts to fit front to center back of neck. Sl sts to a holder. Place markers for 5 buttons with first one about 8½ inches above lower edge and 5th at start of neck. For right front, K on the 7 sts to match left front with buttonholes opposite markers: On right side starting at front edge, K 2, bind off next 3, K last st. On next row cast on 3 sts over buttonhole. Weave or sew ends of borders tog at center back of neck then sew to neck edge. For armbands with Size 6 needles cast on 5 sts, K in garter st to fit around armhole. Bind off. Sew to armhole with seam at underarm, then fold in half and sew to inside.
